Cherries, gardening and Wallace falls.
We harvested the rest of our cherries. This second harvest looks even tastier! Definitely darker and larger cherries! This was the rest of them though, so no more until next summer (from our tree).
The pear tree still doesn't show any signs of having fruit this year. We did have blossoms on it in the spring, but none of them turned to fruit.
The strawberries are also all dried up for the summer already, I might get them to grow again some more for a late summer batch if I prune the vines, fertilize the soil and try to remember to water them now that it's getting so few rains.
The tomatoes and peppers never has a chance to start. I saw that the grocery store still had a couple plants left, so if they are still there next week I might try to get those. It feels weird not growing tomatoes this summer, I've grown them for the past 4 summers.
We've really let the wild flowers go wild this summer. I love all the daises in the yard, but some of the other wild flowers are just a bit much. As is the blackberry bramble in the front yard. It's trying to spread shoots to the front walkway. Kevin is outside mowing the front yard right now, he should be able to get some of the younger shoots with the mower. But really, I think I need to get some of the nice young men from church to come get rid of the berry bramble in the front yard. The blackberries and raspberries in the back yard aren't getting so out of control, and that's where I'd rather have them anyway. I want my tree in the front yard back. I really should talk to the boys soon, find out what they'd like for lunch or something.
I can't name them all, but I know we have at least 6 types of wild flowers this year. I haven't gone to picking them, maybe I will in a few days. The weeds haven't been too bad, the grass is really taken over the most.
I'd share more pictures, but nothing is really manicured right now, so it's not that exciting. I'd do more gardening if the sun didn't make me so stinking hot.
The last few days haven't been so bad, it kind of gets too warm in the evening, but cools off enough to rest again.
Tuesday Kevin and I went to Wallace Falls. My legs still hurt a bit, it's a long hike. We only got as far as the lower falls because again this was a spur of the moment lark, and again that meant no camera (Though you can see some nice pictures in a gallery here.). I was wearing a skirt and flip flops so I really didn't feel up to hiking to the upper falls, though I do want to do that sometime. I also want to wear bug repellant next time as the bugs were swarming all around me. Amazingly I only got two bites, still it was kind of frustrating.
The first leg of the hike is pretty boring... your walking under power lines that are buzzing and crackling from the heat in the air, but eventually the closer you get to Wallace river, the more you feel the air cool, and the trees cover overhead. The smells of the forrest are amazing! There's a campground at this park, but to us it seems silly to camp there since it's only 20 minutes away. But the facilities looked decent.
We really want to go back to this park again. With what I've been reading on a lot of site reviews though, we did the right thing by going in the middle of the week. Apparently the place is flooded with people on the weekends. I really want to go in the winter some time too because apparently it is one of the parks that is still open when there's snow. I might find myself wanting to invest in some snowshoes!
Well, Siggy keeps trying to get at the cherries. I should clean them up so we can enjoy eating them! Yum!

The cherries are so pretty. I really wanted to do some planting this year, but didn't get around to it. Too hot and dry here anyway. It was 109 today. The falls look so relaxing. Be great to take a blanket and a book.
