A Perplexing Journey

I blog about; life with my loving husband, & our cats Siggy, and Maddie. Stuff in the news, my crafts, memes, photo posts & various other things that catch my fancy. I really like working at home, my husband appreciates my roll as housewife, and I find it my most rewarding job yet. We still hope to have children, though we still don't have any yet.

Hey science geek, you too are a racist!

In junior high I was fairly into science. So much so that I was in the astronomy club and we were building our own telescope from scratch. Those were fun days... Anyway, back then I found it kind of funny and fun to keep from being too frustrated by something being missing by saying "there must be a black hole near me" and whatever I was looking for supposedly got sucked into said black hole. I still find my nerdy side every now and then and make such comments. But apparently now I need to guard my tongue because this is supposedly hate filled and racist, and I never knew.

This is just irritating to me because this is a real term used for the scientific anomaly. "A black hole is a region of space in which the gravitational field is so powerful that nothing, not even light, can escape its pull after having fallen past its event horizon. The term "Black Hole" comes from the fact that, at a certain point, even electromagnetic radiation (e.g. visible light) is unable to break away from the attraction of these massive objects. This renders the hole's interior invisible or, rather, black like the appearance of space itself." (as sited on 7/11/08, wikipedia.com)

The issues is that a commissioner in a meeting said paperwork was disappearing possibly from a black whole, or something equally benign, along those lines. Another commissioner there saw it as racist. And from there this kind of exploded.Click this link to read about it.

I think Michelle Malkin said it best. (To find out about this read here.)

"Seriously.

This is what the culture of victimhood and racial hypersensitivity has wrought.

Clowns."
