A Perplexing Journey

I blog about; life with my loving husband, & our cats Siggy, and Maddie. Stuff in the news, my crafts, memes, photo posts & various other things that catch my fancy. I really like working at home, my husband appreciates my roll as housewife, and I find it my most rewarding job yet. We still hope to have children, though we still don't have any yet.

The faith and conviction of a child.

My bloggy friend Dana made an amazing post and I just want to pass the link on for others to read. Children learn more than we may realize a lot of times. They have amazing hearts, and they are constantly processing and forming opinions that often times adults are too lazy to care to contemplate. A child isn't afraid to form their opinion, and what a blessing it is when the proper environment instils a love for the Lord in a child, and that Love for the lord guides their hearts in their choices and decisions.

I would feel a lot better about pro-life legislation if they didn't leave loop holes for things like this to happen:

Laura,
I watched the video you posted the first time you posted it on your blog.

I have much I wish I could say in reaction to it. As I watched it I sensed that things were not as truthful as the video wanted to portray them as. It made me seek more information, I was up all night pouring over articles on both sides of that debate and came to the conclusion that the video is false and misleading.

I'm not going to go into every detail of my reactions and I've taken some time to look up as much information as I can about the women in that video. One benefit of it was that it gave full names and places for those three women, so it made finding additional information and views quick and easy.

The woman who was criminalized for her actions has a lot more to do with what she was trying to hide than the fact that she had a miscarriage. She didn't want blood work done because it would reveal that she was on meth and alcohol while pregnant. She would and was criminalized for neglect because of the drugs. Her action to willfully ignore her doctors and put the life of her children in jeopardy simply was more fuel for the lawyers fires. That's more than just simply wanting to carry a baby full term, it's wanting to avoid being caught for doing something illegal! Additionally, I understand your personal desires for as many pregnancies as possible to go full term and be delivered naturally. However that option isn't always available for some women.
Because of my type of arthritis, if I were to become pregnant, I'd have to have a c-section simply because my body can't handle the stress of labor, do you think less of me because of that? This video turns a blind eye to those issues.

I was hesitant to publish these comments because I don't think this has anything to do with what my friend posted. I still think it's amazing how a child forms their opinion and I think her story is heartwarming and honest.

There are situations when a c-section is neccesary, I'm not denying that. But when the law can come in and say for no real reason that women cannot birth the way they choose that is a problem. Perfectly healthy women are bullied and pushed into unneccesary interventions every day by Obs using scare tactics. And when the OBs don't get their way, they seek court orders to do as they please. The laws that are trying to be passed will make these women have even less of a voice in the birth of their children. C-sections are becoming the norm instead of the exception and that is not right. Yes, they have their place and are around for a reason, I'm not fighting that. I'm fighting for women to have a voice in the birth of their children something that we are slowly losing.

In all honesty, I am against abortion. I would never have one and the thought of them makes me sick. But until they figure out how to make legeslation against them loop-hole free, they are horrible for every pregnant woman.

Laura,
Thank you for your last paragraph, I think this is where we can agree on this issue the most.
You are my longest friend, and I don't want person convictions to ever separate our friendship. I love you and your family dearly.

I can not in good conscience ever vote for anyone or anything that INCREASES abortions for the very reasons you mention. I find them wrong and sickening.

I agree, as we start legislation to rectify this travesty on the earliest of human life there are bumps along the way. I don't however see this as a negative horrible trend. As I mentioned, when I looked into the women mentioned in the video there was a whole different side to the cases that was not mentioned within that video. As I already sited that one case, it wasn't simply that she wanted to have her twins naturally, it was that she wanted to hide that she was on drugs. There is other things with the other cases too. I really haven't seen any issues as cut and dry as that video was trying to make things as. If it was simply a matter of a doctor telling a woman she had to have needless surgery and give no other reasons than yes, that would be wrong. But that should also be cause to clarify the law further, not to continue to allow more innocent lives lost further.

What scares me more is how young teens are lead to believe that human life isn't anything until much later. And how things like FOCA are basically opening up the way to infanticide. The more the pro choice movement seems to try to make their case for choice, the more it seems they have to numb when a woman starts to attach to their child inside them. FOCA would require that waiting periods and informed decisions no longer be required, which then opens up abortions to being this operation to take care of something and leaving the woman with all the consequences completely uninformed about the high rates of depression that often follow women who make such a choice.

Abortion is not natural. Miscarriage is separate of that. Taking the growing human outside of a mother regardless of the stage they are in interrupts her system and causes major issues, it is not a simple operation like is often described.

I feel passionate about how broken and hurt so many women are from being falsely deceived in thinking things will be OK and how bad their lives come crashing down after. Something like FOCA will make this problem more so. Our president elect promised to planned parenthood that he would sign FOCA into law. It broadens the scope of what is allowed. Making legal abortion at any stage, even up 'til the day before a child is due to be born! And by taking restrictions off of clinics to inform their patients and to have waiting periods more women will be making choices under misinformed situations. FOCA additionally negates any law regarding parental consent and notification to parents of minors seeking abortions. This opens up ways for other adults to abuse children, bring them in to be "taken care" of and for the abuse to continue and the parents to never know. In cases of the child being abused by a parent directly law already exists for children to seek shelter from the state and the parents to be punished. Allowing minors to have such a thing made available only allows more room for abuse, not less. It's also odd that a child has to have parental consent to get tylenol from a school nurse, but can get major surgery done, given antibiotics and no parent would know, it just isn't balanced at all.

Please dear friend, understand that I don't want to see any woman suffer by being bullied by a doctor. I think this is where more information about choices and options and possibly laws for such might be necessary. But we shouldn't say that we can't allow a doctor to question a woman as they have more information and knowledge then most women. You are informed about your birthing options because you are passionate about that and have chosen to make yourself informed, not all women are as lucky when it comes to the time they are giving birth. Again too, doctors are able to tell when (not always, but sometimes) there are additional issues going on, like drug abuse or other medical conditions complicating matters, and they have to fulfill their hippocratic oath, not just legislation for life, to heal and preserve life. To keep the patient, and in the case of a pregnant women, patients, in their best care possible. Choices have to be made, and it's often never an easy issue.

I hope I haven't offended you. I'm sure there are those out there who simply think I just want a baby because I can't have one, but it isn't like that for me. I know I'd still have these convictions even if I had half a dozen kids.

I looked into the stories too, and the ones I saw were not misrepresented. One of the women's OBs only wanted her to have a c-section because her baby was "too big" according to ultrasound (which is known to be off by up to 2-3 pounds). In a typical pregnancy babies will not grow too big for a mother to birth. I birthed a 10 pound baby just fine and I know women who have birthed 11, 12 and even 13 pound babies with no intervensions.

For an example of how some OBs treat women, you can check out this link:

If you read into the comments you can see how the docs treat commenters, imagine how they would be in the delivery room.

The first woman in the video is the only one who's story seems to somewhat make that case. I think she's lucky that she was able to make the delivery her way at the other hospital, but I'm just not sure what to think... The couple has later had many issues with the man being in trouble with the law in other ways... I read she had a restraining order on him... it still makes me wonder if there isn't more to that story, some twist that would make the issue make more sense.

I'm not going to continue to pour time into this video, and I think I've made my opinion known. I'm not sure (still) why all of this is being discussed under the post about my friend's foster daughter.

Again, I hope I'm not offending you. I just can't in good conscience ever vote for anyone or anything that INCREASES abortions, and I'll leave it at that.
