I felt a little earthquake!
OK, so a few minutes ago I felt one very quick light jolt. I wasn't sure if it was lightning rumbling or an earthquake, so I went to the USGS site and saw that one was just reported in Sultan at the time I felt it! Yikes! The computers report it was a magnitude 2.4, so fairly light. I didn't see anything move at all. Seemed like barely anything. I don't think Kevin noticed it, he just kept on snoring. I'm guessing anyone who was asleep slept right through it because it was so quick and light.
Earthquakes always seems so strange to me. The crazy thing to me is how easily I feel these light quakes. I felt one almost a year ago that was even lighter.
I'm grateful it's like this, just nothing really, but it makes me wonder if I'll ever feel a very big quake here...
I saw (and felt!) some of the horrors of the '89 quake in Northern California, and every little quake I've ever felt since has reminded me to be grateful that I haven't had to deal with such a quake again. But it always leaves me wondering too. I may not be in California anymore, but I am still near the Pacific Coast. I'm grateful for God's protection.

i lived in napa during the 89 earthquake and our house actually cracked in half down one wall. i was sitting in my bedroom practicing my guitar and suddenly i heard my sisters screaming and yelling. my neighborhood completely fell apart, injuries and all and i didn't feel a thing. i am totally oblivious to earthquakes and it drives me crazy because i want to feel them!
I lived in Manteca then. I remember I had finished my homework and was helping my mom with the at home daycare. The babies didn't really notice anything, but mom and I were freaking out. Susan was outside, and a neighbor brought her home and told us we needed to teach her about earthquake safety because she was hugging a light-pole that could have crushed her if it toppled. I also remember watching the news a lot and seeing loads of horrific scenes. It really made a big impression on my 10 year old mind.
I'm thankful that was the only major earthquake that I've lived through, but I still think of it even with the little ones, and am thankful that I haven't had to see such disaster again since.
The earthquake I just felt a few hours ago was kind of like someone jumped on the floor a few feet away from me, and I felt the vibration near me. Like I said, I wasn't sure right away if it was a lightning bolt or earthquake, until I looked up the info.
My dad slept through the 89 quake if I remember right. He was working nights back then, and I'm pretty sure he hadn't woken up yet.
Wow... my dad lives near Fresno and he has felt quite a few... some bad, some not. We were driving to the coast and as we passed over the fault there was a rumble and to this day I dont know if it was the fault like my dad claims or if it was just the car or something. My dad has a tendency to try to pull my leg quite often! But i looked online afterwards and during that whole week the fault and areas surrounding had been having minor (3s and smaller) quakes. But my dad knew that too. Im very thankful to live here tho.. we dont have to worry about those things. Although about 4 yrs ago there was a quake about an hour away, but it was a 2 or 3. Thats about as bad as it gets here!
Dana, Could be he wasn't pulling your leg. Often times people in cars don't feel them.
